Nitric Oxide

Posted on

Nitric oxide ( NO ) is naturally present in the human body and is formed from the amino acid arginine. NO is an important cell signalling molecule ( the basis of development for tissue repair and immunity ), in all mammals.

Using NO results in vasodilation ( the widening of blood vessels ) which leads to increased blood flow ( haemodilation ), this enables vital nutrients to be delivered straight to the muscle which ultimately results in repair and growth.

NO is important in the release of adrenalin, which it is suggested has pain numbing effects that will allow you to train longer and harder.

Arginine

Arginine is a conditionally non-essential amino acid (most of the time), meaning it can be manufactured by the body and  not entirely reliant on dietary sources. Arginine is synthesized via the small intestine from citrulline, which is produced from glutamine and glutamate. It is the most abundant nitrogen carrier in the human body.

Arginine is a precursor for the production of nitric oxide and ornithine, as well as playing an important role in the synthesis of protein and creatine. This amino acid plays many vital roles which include, cell growth, healing of wounds and bones, immune function and the release of growth hormone. Studies show arginine may increase levels of growth hormone in adults between the ages 25-45. Although doses must be high and are dependant on body weight. To maximise arginine's potential as a growth hormone stimulator, it must be taken on an empty stomach. This is because the presence of amino acids in foods, as well as high levels of insulin in the bloodstream ( brought about by ingesting food stuffs), may have negative effects.

Dietary sources of arginine are:- Diary products, beef, chicken, turkey, tuna, oatmeal, nuts, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, soybeans and many more.

Aginine Alpha Ketogluturate ( AAKG )

AAKG accelerates the process of haemodilation which is important in achieving a fuller, harder muscle. It is well tolerated by the body and works much more effectively than L-Arginine. This compound stimulates the immune system and possesses anti catabolic effects, by increasing protein turnover.

When your body is in a catabolic state this simply means it is breaking muscle down. In order to avoid this you must keep your body in an anabolic state, this is where your body is repairing and therefore making you bigger, faster and stronger !

Arginine Ketoisocaproate ( AKIC )

AKIC and AAKG get on like a house on fire ! The combination of which results in an extended muscle pump, growth and a speedier recovery, which invariably leads to increased strength and stamina.

Ornithine Alpha Ketogluturate ( OKG )

OKG is known for its anabolic effects, stimulating the body to build muscles and other tissues. This compound enables you to train longer and harder whilst inhibiting muscle breakdown, fatigue and the unwanted build up of fats. OKG like AKG is known for its anti catabolic effects and also goes a long way to speeding up recovery.

Glutamine Alpha Ketogluturate ( G-AKG )

G-AKG is a multi purpose compound with the benefits of both glutamine and AKG. It is widely used in the body building industry because of its high degree of absorption, which helps maximise the release of nitric oxide. This allows for a significant increase in muscle building, improved strength and sustained energy levels.
